Colin Powell says he’s voting for Biden. Other top Republicans may soon follow.
Former GOP leaders endorsing Biden is one of the few things I think may move the needle nowadays. Everyone knows what Trump is about, but there are people who need to know it’s OK to identify as Republican and find what Trump is doing is harmful to both America and the Republican Party. Former Republican leaders can provide this permission and the more that do it, the more impact it has.
Conversely, there’s going to be plenty of Republicans that think that the way Trump is acting is either the same as Republicans have always acted (by saying the quiet parts out loud) or is the new normal for how Republicans act. I don’t think there’s much here that can change these minds. When Trump=Republican Party, by definition, anything Trump does is is implicitly what the Republican Party does.
